Why did they have to die…?
Like my dad long ago… My mum more recently. The only grandfather I ever knew as a child. My two grandmothers, my favourite aunt all of a sudden, D’s mum, as well as his dad, another aunt I especially liked…
In between, there was my mentor in Paris, friends my own age or older, some younger, children of friends…
There were writers, poets, artists whom I had known all my life, it seemed -or at least that’s how it felt, all disappearing, one by one. Gone forever.
